Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) Calculator

CLS measures visual stability. A high CLS means elements are jumping around as the page loads, leading to misclicks and severe user frustration. It is a core ranking factor.

How it's Calculated

The browser calculates CLS by looking at two metrics during a layout shift:

  • Impact Fraction: How much of the viewport changed due to the shift.
  • Distance Fraction: How far the unstable element moved relative to the viewport.

Layout Shift Score = Impact Fraction * Distance Fraction
